How to recover concrete floors by dry polishing
Industrial Concrete Renovation

Date

There is a need in the industry about the durability of the floors in their facilities, we will develop the topic of How to recover concrete floors by dry polishing.

Polished concrete is a material widely used today for paving large spaces with a wide variety of uses, both industrial and commercial, including residential.

The main reasons for its great acceptance are, among others, its high resistance, the high degree of performance and features it provides, together with optimum competitiveness in terms of costs.

Epoxy Damaged Floor

However, the achievement of all these qualities, as well as its durability, will depend very much on the quality of the materials used in its manufacture and on the application of the appropriate technical procedures in its installation.

On the other hand, even in the best of cases, there will always come a time in the life of any concrete pavement when it will need to be applied appropriate care and maintenance programmes.

The frequency and intensity of these will depend on the use to which it is submitted.

Recovery from difficult cases

There are times when we can find a seriously damaged concrete floor, with a really important level of wear and tear.

In some cases this may be due to a lack of maintenance, in others to the fact of having endured very intense activity over a long period of time. If this deterioration becomes very severe, it will be necessary, before the polishing phase, to apply a new wearing course.

Dry Polishing Concrete Floor

But if the problem is directly caused by the poor quality of the materials and procedures used in its construction, it will not be possible to carry out work to recover concrete pavements by dry polishing alone.

When this happens, there is no choice but to carry out a complete reconstruction process, starting from zero up to the mechanical trowelling phase prior to the polishing process.

Much more than just recovering

The processes of concrete floor recovery by means of dry polishing offered by Rejuva Flooring, can have as purpose not only to restore damages on its surface.

They will also be necessary in those cases where it is necessary to redirect the activity to be developed in a certain surface. In this way, it will be possible to increase the resistance of your pavement and improve its behaviour against different chemical aggressions.

Grinding Concrete Floor Dry

In fact, the wide variety of existing industrial and commercial sectors require a specific type of pavement for their development that meets the optimum conditions for the performance of each activity.

Before you start, analyze

The first thing we must do to effectively recover a concrete floor in poor condition is to conduct a comprehensive study of its level of conservation, in all its extension.

Once this analysis has been completed, we will establish the appropriate intervention programme based on the diagnosis obtained.

It is important to emphasize at this point that the protocol of actions will be different for each case and will depend, in the first place, on the conditions in which the soil itself is found.

Secondly, the finish and performance desired will be decisive, which in turn will be closely related to the activity that is planned to be carried out on it.

The importance of preparation

In all cases, the sequence of work on how to recover concrete pavements by dry polishing will begin with the preparation and pre-conditioning of the surface to receive the subsequent treatments in the best conditions.

In this phase, cracks are also sealed and other localised damage is repaired.

If it is necessary to correct existing unevennesses, or to condition skirting boards and baseboards, this is also the right time.

Progressive polishing

The following phases will consist of the progressive polishing of the surface. We will start with an intensive mechanical abrasion that will eliminate the most pronounced irregularities, equalizing the surface.

This roughing process will also remove all previous coatings, whether they are paints, waxes, varnishes, etc. The floor is then in the ideal conditions to move on to the polishing stage. From this point, we have up to eight levels of polishing, from the most intense to the finest of the final phases.

Polishing Concrete Floor

The latter will provide the desired level of sealing and shine. These different levels of polishing are applied with the most advanced machinery, specially designed for this function.

They have a robust rotation mechanism with interchangeable diamond discs depending on the degree of abrasion required in each phase. Similarly, the powerful suction system will absorb all the dust and particles that are released in the abrasion and polishing processes.

As a result, dry polishing is more efficient and cleaner than wet treatments and can therefore be carried out in less time.

Lithium treatment

Between each of the different levels of polishing, the appropriate products and materials will be applied, chosen according to the level of regeneration necessary and the final use to which the flooring is to be put.

The range of treatments is very wide, and it will depend on the technical requirements of each project to recommend the use of one or another.

As well as, in many cases, the appropriate thing to do is to apply a specific combination of several of them.

These treatments may consist of the application of components to activate the curing of the material, as well as others to enhance its hardening and resistance.

There are those that increase the levels of densification of the concrete, and also those that confer greater protection against certain chemical agents, etc.

For the final phases, we have various finishing products to provide the surface with different levels of shine and the required sealing and waterproofing qualities.
